May 16, 2025, Falabella of Colombia marked a new milestone in its environmental commitment when it received the certification in the Zero Waste Management System (SGZW). in Gold categorygranted by ICONTEC. This achievement not only represents an important step forward in waste management, but also in the consolidation of a responsible business model, conscious and aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
What does this certification mean?
SGZW Gold certification represents one of the highest levels of compliance in the implementation of strategies oriented towards reduce, reuse, take advantage of and integrally manage the solid wastes generated in its operations. In this case, the recognition covered 28 facilities nationwide, including stores in cities such as Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, and more.
What led Falabella to achieve this certification?
Among the main achievements that made this distinction possible, the following stand out:
- Rate of 82.7% of solid waste generated at all facilities assessed during the year 2025, far exceeding the minimum requirement of 34%, under version 4.0 of the International Standard Zero Waste Management Systems.
- Implementation of a solid waste traceability system, with the following calibrated instruments and centralized dataThis allows for accurate and effective measurement of the impact of your actions.
- Direct commitment from senior management, with budget allocation, active leadership and a clear integration of SGZW into its sustainability and circular economy strategy.
- Strengthening of the environmental culture, with constant trainingThe team in charge of the circular economy programmed activities and participated in circular economy events.
- Design and implementation of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (PGIRS).including clear criteria for the separation, storage, transportation and final disposal of waste.
