Con esta premisa, Sandra Pinzón, CEO y Fundadora de Global Zero Waste, dio inicio a «CIRCULAR», un videopodcast diseñado para visibilizar las historias que giran en torno a la economía circular, la sostenibilidad y las personas que hacen posible un mundo sin residuos.

Nuestra primera invitada, Andrea Cheer, Directora de Asuntos Corporativos de Terpel, compartió cómo la organización ha logrado que la sostenibilidad sea el eje transversal de su operación. Para Andrea, la comunicación es la herramienta clave para este cambio: «La comunicación y el periodismo me hicieron entender que no solamente se trataba de informar… sino de conectar, de inspirar, pero sobre todo… para transformar realidades».

Hablar de Terpel en 2026 es referirse a un referente de excelencia comprobada. Recientemente, la compañía fue incluida, por noveno año consecutivo, en el prestigioso Sustainability Yearbook de S&P Global, consolidándose como una de las 22 empresas colombianas con mejores prácticas ambientales, sociales y de gobierno corporativo (ESG) en el mundo.

Terpel no solo mantuvo su posición, sino que fue distinguida con el reconocimiento «Industry Mover». Este título es otorgado por S&P Global exclusivamente a las empresas que logran mejorar su puntaje de sostenibilidad de manera sobresaliente (más de un 5%) dentro de su industria. Sobre este logro, Daniel Perea, vicepresidente de Asuntos Corporativos de Terpel, ha sido enfático:

“Ser incluidos en el Sustainability Yearbook y ser Industry Mover es el resultado de la disciplina, la toma de decisiones estratégicas, la coherencia entre el discurso y la acción, y un compromiso permanente con operar de manera responsable”.

Casos de éxito: cuando el residuo se vuelve esperanza

En el escenario de CIRCULAR, la conversación se materializa a través de objetos con historia. Uno de los puntos más emotivos del episodio fue el análisis de la economía circular aplicada a la lucha contra el hambre. A través de la tecnología de EatCloud, Terpel ha logrado gestionar excedentes de alimentos en sus tiendas de conveniencia «Altoque», evitando el desperdicio y alimentando a comunidades vulnerables.

«Además de estar evitando que un producto se convierta en un residuo, estamos luchando contra el hambre. Entonces es una economía circular con impacto social», explicó Andrea mientras dialogaban sobre el impacto de un simple «pastel de pollo» que, en lugar de ir a la basura, llega a una mesa donde es necesitado.

Asimismo, se presentó la historia de las cartucheras creadas a partir de uniformes en desuso, un proyecto de upcycling que no solo reduce el impacto ambiental, sino que apoya la educación de niños en las zonas de influencia de la compañía. Sobre esto, Andrea enfatizó la visión de largo plazo que comparten con el Sistema de Gestión Zero Waste:

«Cuando hablamos de un sistema de gestión Zero Waste no es como la foto del momento… es el ahora y lo que va a suceder a partir de la transformación social».

Un compromiso que «renace»

Al finalizar el encuentro, Sandra Pinzón retó a Andrea a definir la circularidad en una sola palabra. La respuesta fue contundente: «Renacer». Para Terpel, ser un «Aliado País» significa precisamente eso: permitir que los materiales, las historias y las comunidades tengan una segunda oportunidad a través de la innovación y la coherencia.

Promigas is a leading company in the energy sector with more than 50 years of experience, connecting markets with energy sources and generating value from responsible environmental management. Through an ecosystem of 21 companies, the organization provides solutions in natural gas transportation and distribution, LNG regasification, electric power and integrated services for the industry, consolidating itself as a key player in the energy development of Latin America. Its operation has been decisive in the massification of natural gas in countries such as Colombia and Peru, where today more than 7 million users have access to these services, representing a true social transformation, especially in low-income populations. This impact is supported by a robust infrastructure of more than 3,293 kilometers of gas pipelines, through which it transports 56 % of the country's natural gas, as well as strategic initiatives such as the operation of the only regasification terminal in Colombia and the development of renewable energy projects aimed at reducing emissions.

In this context, sustainability has ceased to be a complementary component and has become a structural pillar of its business strategy. Promigas has progressively been integrating environmental criteria into its operations, with a clear focus on resource efficiency, impact reduction, and the incorporation of circular economy principles in its processes. This path is materialized in obtaining Zero Waste Management System (ZWMS) Certificationgranted by ICONTEC, conformity assessment body, for its operation in Barranquilla, Colombia, and the support of Global Zero Waste, a leading international NGO in the expansion of the Zero Waste model. This recognition validates compliance with the requirements established in the International Standard Zero Waste Management Systems version 5, applied to the maintenance of natural gas transportation and distribution systems, and reflects the organization's ability to structure, implement, and sustain a management system aligned with international standards.

A recognition that validates structured management

The certificate obtained recognizes the outstanding performance of the implemented system, with a score of 81.49, which allowed it to reach the Gold Category, one of the highest distinctions within the model. This result not only demonstrates the robustness of the system but also the organization's maturity in the comprehensive management of its waste, integrating practices that go beyond regulatory compliance and are oriented towards value generation. The implementation of the ISWM has involved a structured process of internal transformation, in which clear guidelines have been defined, operational capabilities have been strengthened, and an organizational culture based on continuous improvement has been promoted.

Results that demonstrate a transition towards a circular economy

The advances achieved by Promigas are reflected in concrete results that demonstrate a real transition towards a circular economy. Among these, the total elimination of single-use plastic cups stands out, avoiding the consumption of more than 600,000 units per year, as well as a% reduction in waste sent for final disposal, which shows a significant change in the system's efficiency. Complementarily, the organization has achieved recycling levels exceeding % 60%, strengthening its utilization chains and incorporating valorization practices that maximize the use of materials.

These results respond to a strategic vision that understands waste management as an opportunity to optimize processes, reduce costs, and generate positive environmental impacts. In this regard, Promigas has made progress in incorporating sustainability criteria in its relationships with suppliers, identifying reverse logistics opportunities, and developing material reuse initiatives, thereby expanding the scope of its management beyond direct operations. The achievement is largely the result of the commitment of its work teams, who have integrated sustainability into their daily activities, strengthening ownership of the 3R strategies and consolidating an organizational culture focused on environmental performance. Today, March 30, 2026, the world celebrates International Day of Zero Waste, a date proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2022 and jointly facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). At Global Zero Waste, we join this commemoration with deep conviction, reaffirming our decade-long commitment to transforming waste management globally through international standards, independent verification, and specialized education.

A planetary crisis that demands real action

Waste pollution is not just an environmental problem: it threatens human health, drains hundreds of billions of dollars from the global economy, and exacerbates the triple planetary crisis: climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and the pollution crisis. The most recent report from the World Bank, What a Waste 3.0 (2026), confirms that the world is at a critical juncture. In 2022, municipal solid waste generation reached approximately 2.56 billion tons, a figure that, far from stabilizing, continues to rise rapidly. If current trends persist, the global volume could reach nearly 3.86 billion tons by 2050, representing an increase of close to 50% in less than three decades.

This growth reflects not only unsustainable consumption patterns, but also deep structural inequalities. While high-income countries achieve collection coverages of close to 100%, only about 28% of the waste generated is collected in low-income countries. As a result, about 30% of waste worldwide is still inadequately managed - either through open dumping or no collection at all - which amplifies the impacts on public health, ecosystems and climate stability.

In this context, the theme defined for 2026, “Towards Zero Food Waste through Multisectoral Action,” takes on strategic relevance. Food waste has established itself as one of the main drivers of the contemporary environmental crisis. According to the same report, organic waste accounts for about 38% of municipal waste globally, and is also a significant source of methane emissions, one of the most potent greenhouse gases. However, despite their impact, more sustainable solutions - such as composting or anaerobic digestion - remain marginal, with only 6% of adoption globally.

Global Zero Waste: From Intention to Verifiable Action

Amidst this crisis, one of the greatest opportunities for global sustainability also emerges. The World Bank points out that proper waste management not only reduces environmental impacts but can also become a driver of economic development, job creation, and innovation. The transition towards a circular economy—where materials are kept in use and their value is maximized—allows us to rethink waste not as a problem, but as a strategic resource.

It is precisely at this point that the Zero Waste approach makes sense as an operational model rather than a theoretical aspiration. Since 2012, Global Zero Waste has been working to consolidate an international standard that allows organizations to translate their commitments into verifiable results. In a global scenario where sustainability declarations abound, the difference lies in the ability to measure, demonstrate, and audit environmental performance.

The results are reflected not only in high percentages of waste diversion from landfills but also in significant emission reductions, resource optimization, and the generation of economic value.

Softys Uruguay: Platinum leadership in Zero Waste

At Global Zero Waste We understand that awards acquire true value when they are backed by measurable results, strategic coherence and sustained continuous improvement over time. That is why, during the most recent Zero Waste Awards gala, held on December 9, 2025, we were especially proud to celebrate Softys Uruguay, distinguished as a Platinum Affiliate of the Zero Waste Management System Program.

This milestone consolidates a process that formally began in 2022, when its plant in Pando obtained the Zero Waste Management System Gold category certification, granted by Icontec and Global Zero Waste. After maintaining this certification for three consecutive years and demonstrating consistent results, the operation has now reached the highest level within our affiliate program.

Coherence between strategy and operation

Under the corporate promise “We care for the future today”, Softys Group has defined its Sustainability Strategy 2024-2028 structured on four pillars: being responsible from start to finish, caring for consumers, supporting communities and being better together.

In the environmental area, the company is committed to “doing more with less”, assuming responsibility for its impact throughout the value chain. Among its goals are:

A differentiating element is territorial articulation. The alliance with the Municipality of Canelones has made it possible to promote joint initiatives for the management and use of organic waste, demonstrating that industrial sustainability is strengthened when there is public-private coordination.

The plant's active participation in regional and national forums has also contributed to making progress visible and sharing best practices, generating an impact beyond its own operational limits.

Leadership that integrates sustainability into corporate management

The discipline in monitoring indicators, traceability of waste, continuous improvement of processes and the appropriation of the standard by the plant teams are a reflection of a solid technical management that has allowed us to maintain the certification for three consecutive years and advance to the Platinum level.

Each plant employee has contributed to consolidating an organizational culture where responsible waste management is part of the daily work and where continuous improvement is understood as a shared responsibility. The transition to a circular economy is no longer a conceptual debate; it is a structural necessity for territories seeking competitiveness, resilience and real sustainability. It is in this context that the Global Circular Economy Summit - NOVA NEXT SUMMIT, This initiative positions Ibagué as the regional and international epicenter of strategic dialogue on sustainability.

On April 21, 22 and 23, 2026, the city will be the stage where this vision will be translated into concrete action. The Summit is organized by Clean Ibagué, under the direction of Milton Restrepo and is supported by ANDESCO, the guild that is driving the circular economy to another level, in addition to a wide network of strategic partners, institutional allies, bi-national chambers, European innovation platforms and actors of the business and environmental ecosystem.

The Summit is not an isolated event. Its development began with the Pre-Summit held within the framework of COP30 in Belém (Amazon), where the Manifesto of Mayors, Governors and Elected Officials for the Glocal Circular Economy was signed. This declaration consolidated territorial commitments in climate action and circular economy under ESG criteria, positioning the voice of municipalities in global climate governance scenarios.

5 results that led Ultracem to Zero Waste Certification

Ultracem Ultracem is a multi-Latin company in the construction and materials sector, specializing in the manufacture and marketing of high-quality cement, concrete, mortar, and adhesives. The company serves builders, concreters, precasters, and the hardware sector, providing solutions for infrastructure development through high-tech production processes and a strong commitment to quality.

In November 2025, the organization reached an historic milestone for the industry by achieving Certification in the Zero Waste Management System (SGZW) in Gold Category for its operation in Colombia, the highest distinction awarded, following an external audit conducted by ICONTEC. With this achievement, the company becomes the first company in its sector to achieve this category, consolidating its position as a benchmark in sustainability, circular economy and advanced waste management.

This certification validates the rigorous implementation of SGZW in the company's operations, demonstrating that sustainability integrated into corporate strategy can translate into verifiable environmental, operational and economic results.

Outstanding performance in waste reduction and management

During 2025, Ultracem evidenced a structural change in its waste management, achieving a 33 % reduction in total generation compared to 2024. This progress was reflected in the decrease from 14,005.78 tons to 9,441 tons of waste generated, as a result of a robust focus on source reduction and optimization of production processes.

In parallel, the company achieved high-performance recycling indicators that far exceed industry standards:

Overall recycling of 98.60 %
Actual recycling of 98.66 %, with sustained compliance throughout the year.
Recycling of 100 % of the Kraft paper sacks used in the operation.
Total use of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW), with 8,921 tons recycled, equivalent to 100 % of this flow.

These results reflect the maturity of the system and Ultracem's ability to efficiently and responsibly manage materials throughout their life cycle.

Minimal disposal and above-industry average performance

One of the most relevant indicators of Ultracem's environmental performance in 2025 was the minimization of final disposal. Only 1 % of the waste generated was sent to final disposal. This result not only exceeds the established corporate goal, but also positions the company with an outstanding performance compared to the standards of the industrial sector, evidencing a management oriented to the valorization and closing of material cycles.

Operational savings and associated economic benefits

The implementation of the SGZW also generated significant economic impacts. The strengthening of internal recycling of CDW allowed us to achieve 26 % of recovery in our own operations, reducing costs associated with external management and generating significant savings, equivalent to a 35 % decrease in expenses compared to 2024.

In addition, the wooden pallet reuse strategy achieved 79 % of repaired pallets, far exceeding the target of 50 %. This measure saved approximately 23% of the budget execution compared to 2024, considering that the repair of pallets is up to 16 times more economical than the acquisition of new units.

Environmental, social and organizational impacts

Beyond the technical and economic indicators, the implementation of the system has generated long-term environmental, social and organizational benefits. These include the reduction of pressure on landfills, the optimization of resource use, the strengthening of the circular economy and the consolidation of a solid environmental culture among employees.

These advances position Ultracem as a sector benchmark in sustainability, demonstrating that responsible waste management is a strategic pillar for competitiveness, operational efficiency and the generation of shared value, results that reaffirm its commitment to continuous improvement and the adoption of management models aligned with the principles of the circular economy, marking a clear path for the sustainable transformation of the industry.

During the most recent International Zero Waste Awards Ceremony, On December 9, we highlighted the companies that, after more than three years of certification, have reached the highest level within the Zero Waste Management System Affiliates Program.

This year, one business group once again stood out for its strategic vision, its culture of continuous improvement and the positive impact of its actions: Softys, Softys, a leading multi-Latin hygiene and care company, added four plants recognized as Platinum Affiliates in different countries in Latin America. This achievement consolidates Softys as one of the organizations with the greatest progress in the implementation of the Zero Waste Management System in the region.

This operation has become a regional benchmark thanks to its capacity to achieve a 97% utilization rate and for the rigor with which it manages its materials. In addition, it has promoted circular economy projects that have transcended its operation, such as the development of hydro-retainers for the soil from industrial waste and the integration of sludge in processes of the brick sector, initiatives that strengthen the relationship with local partners and have even aroused interest outside the country. His leadership has been key to consolidate the sustainability vision of the business group in Colombia.

Softys Colombia - Gachancipá Plant

Cundinamarca, Colombia - Certification: 2020

Another Colombian operation that has set the standard is the Gachancipá plant. Its disciplined approach to circularity has enabled it to achieve a recovery rate of 96%, reflecting a sustained effort to reduce waste and optimize its internal processes. The plant has strengthened its organizational culture around sustainability, ensuring that each work area contributes to meeting the objectives of the Zero Waste Management System. This progress has positioned Gachancipá as a solid, committed facility that is constantly striving to improve its environmental indicators.

Softys Ecuador S.A.

Ecuador - Certification: 2022

In Ecuador, the commitment to sustainability is also evident. The Productos Tissue del Ecuador S.A. plant has consolidated its position as one of the best performing operations within the group, thanks to a disciplined implementation of the SGZW that has enabled it to achieve around 93% of waste utilization and obtain a score of 94.2 in its certification with ICONTEC. Its evolution reflects a constant effort to strengthen efficiency in materials management and to respond to operational challenges with innovative and measurable solutions. Ecuador is thus positioned as a key country in Softys' regional progress in terms of circularity.

Softys Uruguay - Industria Papelera Uruguaya S.A.

Canelones, Uruguay - Certification: 2022

Finally, we celebrate with special enthusiasm the Softys plant in Canelones, Uruguay, one of the most recent to join the group of Platinum Affiliates. This operation has achieved 87% utilization and has stood out for incorporating innovative practices such as fiber recovery to reduce the use of virgin raw materials. Likewise, its active participation in regional and national events has contributed to making its progress visible and strengthening the exchange of best practices. A particularly valuable aspect is its alliance with the Municipality of Canelones, through which they promote joint initiatives for the management and use of organic waste, demonstrating that territorial articulation is key to moving towards a circular economy.

Leadership that sets a regional precedent

Softys' progress-from the first certifications in 2020 to the new recognitions in 2025-evidence a consistent and deeply committed to sustainability.
