Waste management in sectors of high operational complexity, such as passenger transportation, has ceased to be an environmental compliance action and has become a strategic efficiency metric. During the recent Zero Waste International Awards, held virtually on December 9, the case of Blanco y Negro Masivo was highlighted as a benchmark of this transition.
Sandra Pinzón, Global Zero Waste CEO, pointed out how the implementation of the Zero Waste Management System (SGZW) has enabled the organization to mitigate operational risks and consolidate its sustainable leadership in the region.
From certification to consolidation
Blanco y Negro Masivo's journey began in 2022, when it became the first ground transportation company globally to obtain SGZW Gold certification. Today, the organization reaches a new milestone by being recognized as a Platinum Affiliate, the highest level of the program.
This promotion is based on highly rigorous technical indicators:
- General recycling indicator: 99.4 %
- Actual utilization indicator: 99.51 %
From a technical point of view, David Pinto, Global Zero Waste Project Engineer, highlights:
“The case of Blanco y Negro Masivo has a robust foundation and senior management that demonstrates leadership and a solid path to a successful certification process in version 5 of the International Standard. However, to achieve excellence and ensure the sustainability of the system, it must transition from generalist management to detailed technical measurement, focusing on accurate quantification of reduction and practical implementation of the circular economy (9R). Current partial compliances represent «quick wins» that, if addressed soon, will significantly raise the efficiency of the system over time.”
Leadership and human commitment: The key to success
This recognition as a Platinum Affiliate is the result of an organizational culture focused on sustainability. Under the vision of its General Manager, Eduardo Bellini Ayala, The company has managed to permeate these values at all levels of the operation.
We would like to extend a special congratulations to the sustainability team that has led this technical and strategic transition:
- Alejandro Ramirez, Director of Integral Management.
- Windy M. Rodríguez Bermúdez and Carolina Sandoval, who have actively strengthened the implementation of the SGZW standard.
This achievement also belongs to each of the employees who, with their daily work, ensure that the circular economy is a living practice within the organization.
