Circular Plastic Credits

¿What is?

Voluntary Programme on Circular Economy

It is a certification programme that facilitates and guarantees individuals, companies and the general public the registration of Project on Circular Economy Materials, the certification of issuance and the registration of Circular Credits with blockchain technology.

In this context, it is a financial support instrument for the recovery of materials along the value chain with which the Circular Credits that finance environmental reduction and recirculation services are traded.

Circular Credits

Circular Credits are international financing mechanisms that equate to the reduction or recirculation of one metric ton of materials. These credits can be purchased by organisations or consumers who want to offset their material footprint and promote the development of Project on Circular Economy Materials.

How to certify your project?

Projects on Circular Economy Materials that comply with the requirements defined in the programme protocol and procedures can be certified. Once compliance has been reviewed, the certification report is generated for the registration and issuance of Circular Credits.

Projects that are certified must go through the stages of the certification cycle.

STAGE 1: Formulation

During the formulation stage, the initial project documents (Location, PDD, Special Power of Attorney, ODS Tool and Supporting Documents) are reviewed and it is verified that the developer or project holder does have a signed contract with the programme proceeding further in the certification process.

STAGE 2: Public comments

Once the formulation is approved, public comment on the project begins on the Cercarbono, which remains open for a period of 30 calendar days.

STAGE 3: Validation

The Validation and Verification Body (VVB) reviews the validation documents (PDD, Validation Calculations, Supporting Documents, among others) and the fulfilment of requirements for approval.

STEP 4: Verification

The Validation and Verification Body (VVB) reviews the verification documents (verification calculations, monitoring report, SDG tool and its evidence, supporting documents, among others) and the fulfilment of requirements for the start of certification.

STEP 5: Certification

This stage involves the review of compliance with the requirements for the certification of the reduction or recirculation of materials reported during the verified period and the issuance of the Circular Credits.

Joint validation and verification processes by a VVB are possible, depending on the needs of the project.

The programme uses EcoRegistry as its project registration platform. EcoRegistry is a platform based on blockchain technology that ensures transparency in the accounting of the voluntary materials circularity market, as well as security and traceability in the management of information related to materials reduction or recirculation initiatives.
