Cacique El Centro Comercial, in Bucaramanga, has set a milestone in the region by becoming the first Zero Waste shopping centre in eastern Colombia, consolidating its leadership in sustainability and environmental commitment.

During 2024, it achieved an impressive 97% real recycling, efficiently managing 185 tonnes of solid waste and turning 47 tonnes of organic waste into six tonnes of compost, thanks to a management system focused on the circular economy and shared responsibility.

That achievement earned it the international Zero Waste Management System certification at Gold level, awarded by Icontec, positioning it as a model to follow in the country.

Results that inspire action

Cacique's efficiency in waste management is not only a technical achievement but a cultural transformation across every level of its operation. That result was possible thanks to the coordination of tenants, visitors, operational staff and strategic partners, who have taken an active role in building cleaner, more responsible surroundings.

Support and recognition

At Global Zero Waste, we had the honour of accompanying them through this process of transformation and at the official presentation of the Gold Zero Waste certification, at a ceremony led by our Technical Director, Diego Romero, together with:

This committed team has been key to implementing and consolidating a robust environmental strategy, aligned with the principles of sustainability and continuous improvement.

Beyond waste management

Cacique's commitment to the Zero Waste model goes further than reducing waste: it translates into environmental training, effective communication strategies, partnerships with responsible waste managers and a long-term vision centred on resource optimisation and the creation of shared value.

Our commitment stands firm

At Global Zero Waste we believe that sustainability is not a goal but a daily road built with commitment, innovation and strategic partnerships. That is why we support organisations with technical tools, continuous training and a management system that drives efficiency, positive impact and resilience.

We are proud to be part of Cacique's story of transformation and to keep adding partners to the Zero Waste movement in Colombia and Latin America.
