Promocali and Promovalle: pioneers in urban sustainability with Gold Zero Waste Certification
Promocali and Promovalle, leading public waste-collection companies in Colombia, have reached an important milestone in their commitment to the environment. On 15 August 2025, the Operations and Administrative Base of both companies received Zero Waste Management System Certification in the Gold category, one of the highest sustainability distinctions awarded by ICONTEC and Global Zero Waste in Latin America. That makes them the first in their sector in the country to obtain this prestigious recognition.
The certification is based on the International Standard for the Zero Waste Management System, a circular economy tool and intellectual property of Global Zero Waste. The standard promotes continuous improvement in the efficiency of material and solid waste flows, driving the application of the 9R strategies (Refuse, Rethink/Redesign, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Recover parts, Recycle). By aligning their processes with this standard, Promocali and Promovalle demonstrate their commitment to excellence in environmental management and their contribution to closing the global circularity gap.
A transformative road towards sustainability
Adopting the Zero Waste model was not a simple adjustment but an integral transformation. Promocali and Promovalle redesigned their processes, trained their teams and implemented operational strategies to turn waste into valuable resources, closing production cycles and contributing to a cleaner, more efficient future.
Angélica Delgado, manager of Promocali and Promovalle, stressed the importance of the achievement: “This is recognition of our firm commitment to the circular economy and to minimising environmental impact. It is an achievement that marks a decisive step towards a culture of corporate sustainability, in which waste stops being a problem and becomes an opportunity for transformation and value."
Leadership and collaboration: the keys to success
The role of ICONTEC, as conformity assessment body, was essential in verifying and auditing compliance with each of the requirements set out in the International Standard for the Zero Waste Management System. Its external validation ensures the rigour and transparency of the certification process.
At Global Zero Waste, the success of Promocali and Promovalle is testimony to the power of collaboration. Their leadership, the dedication of their interdisciplinary team and their vision of the future are proof that meaningful change is possible. We therefore extend our sincerest congratulations to the management, to all the staff and to every person who made this achievement possible.
Their commitment is a source of inspiration for other companies seeking to lead the transition towards a more responsible, circular business model.
Thank you, Promocali/valle, for acting, for believing and for showing that a new way of doing industry really is possible.
