Sustainability at Productos Ramo: what does the circular economy taste like?

The road to a world without waste takes more than technical processes; it takes stories that inspire and actions that transform. With that in mind, Sandra Pinzón, CEO and Founder of Global Zero Waste, continues to lead "CIRCULAR", a video podcast designed to give visibility to the stories that revolve around the circular economy, sustainability and the people who make a world without waste possible.

In this new episode, guest Ana Milena Celis, PR, Communications and Sustainability Manager at Productos Ramo, shared how the organisation has managed to bring sustainability at Productos Ramo to the heart of one of Colombia's best-loved brands. For Ana Milena, communication is the key tool for inspiring that change:

"Communication is not just about telling stories or simply communicating; it is about inspiring, motivating, discovering other things. So I felt that those two worlds [communication and sustainability] have, for me… been part of my life."

Productos Ramo: a legacy of tradition and social purpose

To talk about Productos Ramo in 2026 is to talk about a pillar of the identity and the emotional memory of millions of people. With 75 years behind it, the company has shown that economic growth has to go hand in hand with a deep, genuine social commitment.

Ramo has transformed its operation organically, understanding that its role goes far beyond producing iconic food; it is an active responsibility towards the development of its surroundings. On the purpose that drives traditional companies today, Ana Milena was emphatic:

"Understanding that companies, especially companies that have been around for many years like Ramo, do not only have economic growth, but also a purpose, a social purpose, a purpose towards the country."

Circular economy at Ramo: when plastic waste becomes education

On the set of CIRCULAR, the conversation about sustainability at Productos Ramo takes shape through objects with a story behind them. One of the most moving moments of the episode was the presentation of an object with a transformative impact: a school desk.

Through a strategic partnership with the Fundación Recupera tu Silla, Productos Ramo has turned the management of its packaging and plastic waste into recycled timber for building school furniture, giving dignity to the learning spaces of children in vulnerable conditions.

"Through a school desk you are giving a child a decent chance of having a classroom where they can study in good conditions; you give those little ones who need it so much the tools to have a better present and a better future," explained the Productos Ramo spokesperson.

The conversation also produced a perfect analogy using one of the brand's most traditional products: the ChocoRamo bar with jam. For the guest, if sustainability had a flavour, it would be that one, because just like that cake, an environmental strategy "has layers you have to manage, you have to understand, and you have to know where it is heading".

The future of the strategy: a commitment guided by "consistency"

As the meeting drew to a close, Sandra Pinzón challenged Ana Milena to define in a single word the purpose that guides her work in the organisation. The answer was emphatic: "Consistency". For Ramo, the road to the circular economy demands doing away with false narratives, tackling the lack of consistency and betting on transparent, clear and simple communication that genuinely connects with the end consumer.

This episode of CIRCULAR is an invitation to look beyond tradition and discover the heart of an organisation that, with passion and alongside its people, is determined to leave a positive mark on the country's future, one piece of waste at a time.
