A strategic partnership to drive the Zero Waste model in Latin America
Global Zero Waste (GZW), the international organisation leading the promotion of the Zero Waste model, announces its arrival in Mexico through a strategic partnership with Prospectiva Circular and Estrategia Circular MX, two consultancies pioneering the transition to the circular economy in the country.
This collaboration consolidates the expansion of the Zero Waste Management System (SGZW) in Latin America, positioning both consultancies as authorised strategic partners of the international standard on Mexican soil, working alongside the Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs): Icontec, Organismo de Certificación Guanajuato and Atzert, which will guarantee the transparency, impartiality and fulfilment of every requirement set out in the international standard.
A partnership to transform corporate sustainability
With this partnership, Mexico will have a globally recognised and verifiable methodology that allows companies to manage their materials efficiently, cut costs and drive circular innovation.
🔹 Global Zero Waste contributes the technical and methodological framework: the Global Zero Waste Standard, a tool that brings together management, reduction, reuse and recycling programmes under the principles of the 9Rs of the circular economy.
🔹 Prospectiva Circular and Estrategia Circular MX take on the role of implementing consultancies, adapting the standard to the country's operational, regulatory and industrial reality.
These consultancies will be responsible for:
- Assessing and implementing the Zero Waste Management System (SGZW) in Mexican organisations.
- Training Zero Waste Lead Implementers, strengthening local technical capabilities.
- Supporting companies through to certification by the authorised CABs (Icontec, Organismo de Certificación Guanajuato and Atzert), guaranteeing auditable, traceable and reliable processes.
Impact and benefits for Mexico
The arrival of Global Zero Waste in Mexico marks a decisive step towards a solid, measurable and certifiable circular economy. This partnership will make it possible to:
✅ Global standardisation: offer companies a methodology comparable with international benchmarks.
✅ Competitive advantage: SGZW certifications strengthen the trust of customers, investors and commercial partners.
✅ Transparency and credibility: the backing of the CABs guarantees impartiality and rigour in verifying processes.
✅ Acceleration of the circular economy: it fosters innovation, process redesign and the valorisation of materials.
Challenges and commitments
The Mexican consultancies acknowledge the country's structural challenges — such as the infrastructure gap for valorisation, regulatory fragmentation and informal recycling — but are set on turning them into opportunities for innovation and systemic improvement.
As Sandra Pinzón, CEO of Global Zero Waste, put it:
"This partnership is a decisive step in the expansion of the Zero Waste model in Latin America. Mexico has enormous potential to lead the circular transition and show that sustainability and profitability can move forward together."
About the partners
Prospectiva Circular and Estrategia Circular MX are benchmark organisations in the circular economy, advising governments, companies and institutions on the implementation of sustainable strategies and ecological transition policies.
With their knowledge of the local context, the technical backing of Global Zero Waste and certification by the CABs (Icontec, Organismo de Certificación Guanajuato and Atzert), Mexico takes a firm step towards a future without waste, with purpose and with a guarantee of international compliance.
