Universidad de La Sabana: higher education leading with sustainability
In this article
The Universidad de La Sabana has reached a new milestone in its environmental commitment, becoming the fourth higher education institution in Colombia to be certified under the Zero Waste Management System. This achievement reaffirms its leadership in sustainability within the country's education sector.
A conscious campus, a committed community
On 30 April, at Global Zero Waste we had the honour of accompanying this historic moment, represented by our Certification Director, Alberto Díaz, together with our Business Development Director, Liliana Fonseca, who officially presented the Gold category certification, awarded by Icontec.
This distinction recognises the effort of the Universidad de La Sabana to transform its university surroundings into a cleaner, healthier and more responsible space, aligned with the principles of the circular economy and the proper management of solid waste.
Recognition of collective work
We congratulate the whole university community on this achievement, and especially its leadership team:
Rolando Roncancio Rachid, Rector of the University.
Edwin Roberto González, Director of Healthy and Sustainable Environment.
Henry Leonardo Moya López, Environmental Management Coordinator.
Thanks to their vision, perseverance and coordination with staff, students and suppliers, La Sabana today stands as a national benchmark in sustainable education.
Moving towards a zero waste future
This recognition is the result of an integral approach to sustainable education that seeks not only to manage waste efficiently but also to foster an environmental culture inside and outside the campus. A genuine example of how universities can be catalysts for change.
At Global Zero Waste we celebrate this new chapter and reiterate our commitment to going on accompanying institutions that, like the Universidad de La Sabana, believe in a more conscious, regenerative and resilient future.
The Zero Waste model does not only manage waste, it educates for change!
